Why Did Serena Williams Lose?
Hailed as the greatest female tennis player ever! The little girl “straight outta Compton” was on the verge of winning all the major tennis tournaments in a calendar year. Has not been done since 1988! One more to go, THE US OPEN in New York!
Madison Keys, the tall, African American, 21 years old, hard hitting, with serve speed of 120 or more miles per hour, was going to be her biggest threat. I watched the match, Serena, did not overpower Madison, Madison overpowered herself and lost. then came big sister Venus, the match of the tournament, and it was. Venus pushed little sister, but Serena played her best, and the world marveled, I did too. Serena moved, her eyes were on the ball, and her power was magnificent.
On to the semi-finals, postponed from Thursday September,10 because of rain, to Friday 11th,..Serena started out winning the first set. She was playing a player who is ranked in the double digits, one she can wake up in the middle of the night and beat mercilessly in her nightgown; but she lost the second set. Now the world is waiting to see the usual Williams “come back”, that has been part of their DNA, lose a set, give their fans heart palpitations, then come back to win the third set, and raise their hands in respectful victory. Both Venus and Serena are guilty of this.
Serena lost both the second and third sets; it was like watching the “Challenger” blow up on its way to outer space, and a cloud of smoke descending to earth.
At the press conference, Serena said “I was not under any pressure”. She lied. Why did she lose? She was under pressure to solidify 2015 as SERENA WILLIAMS YEAR. So why did it not happen? Could it be her coach ? Did she misjudge her opponent? (Roberta Vinci of Italy) Was she tired?
The history of African American tennis players is that they often choke, especially on big events. Commentators have talked about Jo Wilfried Tsonga (France) Gael Monfils (France) Donald Young (USA), who all possess great athletic ability, but make poor decisions on shot selections at crucial moments. I remember Zina Garrison, who had Steffe Graff against the Wall, but let her come back to win the tournament. Tennis is not basketball or football, it’s an individual sport, mental steadfastness along with athletic prowess have to be in combination. Serena and the aforementioned have to know how not to take relationships to the court. To know what to do once the ball crosses the net. Your mother, father, boyfriend/girlfriend, luxury car, messed up date, who is in the players box, (DRAKE) are not going to help you decide how to hit the ball.

Serena has no excuses, no reasons to explain her loss. She has disappointed millions, because of her mental misapplication.
Wow good thoughts we need to talk about that more.
