“O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou?” The legendary words associated with William Shakespeare, known to the world as the “Bard”; from his play Romeo and Juliet.
But what if Romeo was indeed a “player”, playing tricks on women for his economic and social existence? What if one were to take the Roman approach to romance, the English language presentation of the eighteenth century, add music, and modern hip hop, what would be the end product?
Well needless to say, the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company has done the collage, and is presenting this effort to the public, entitled, THE COMEDY OF ERRORS, in the woods of Ellicott City Maryland.
It may be a little difficult to comprehend, when people talk to each other in sentences as, “man and matter laugh me to scorn”; “against my soul are you a god? then transform me”
The inclusion of the BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC and a song from the movie SISTER ACT, will have you laughing out loud.
The play is outdoors, among the ruins of a historic Howard County building located in the recesses of Patapsco Park. You are encouraged to pack a picnic basket, with eats and drinks, and wine is allowed.
Matthew Ancarrow, is a delight to watch (see video). The entire experience could be quite memorable, especially for outdoor entertainment in the non traditional sense.
